'The Devil's Churn' - Larne's Black Arch

Beside the Black Arch, a small cave (accessed by a staircase) close to the sea, is one of Larne's famous haunted places. It's called the Devil's Churn, because of the noise the sea makes against the rocks.

It's said that a piper went down to the sea, having had a bit too much to drink, into the rocky opening beside the water - and that he never came back. No searching could find what happened to him.

His pipes, however, can still be heard at midnight, under a house in Ballycraigy in Larne. It's said - but, mind, it's never been proven - that a cavern lies beneath the house, accessed by the piper from the cave and that the pipes playing are those of the long-lost piper.
